Title: Gravitational self-force beyond linear and beyond bound
Abstract: Gravitational self-force theory is the primary method of modeling asymmetric binaries, in which one object is much larger than the other. In this talk I discuss the major recent advance in this method: waveform models at second (“post-adiabatic”) order in the mass ratio. I highlight the challenges in extending these models to the full parameter space of physically realistic orbits. Motivated by novel paths that might circumvent these challenges, I also describe some ongoing work on self-force methods for unbound orbits.
