Title: Black Hole Perturbation Theory: A Modern Approach

Abstract:

In this talk, we will review the formalism to study massless linear perturbations of black holes, which goes by the name of black hole perturbation theory (BHPT). The Teukolsky master equation, as well as its connection to the Heun differential equations is discussed. We then discuss novel solutions obtained via 2-d CFT methods, as well as their relation to the traditional Mano-Suzuki-Takasugi (MST) solutions in general relativity. Finally, from these solutions we will show how to extract scattering amplitudes which are relevant for gravitational wave phenomenology.
