SUMMARY:SFB lectures on Amplitudes[Mark Spradlin(Brown Univ.) & Congkao Wen
(Univ. Roma)] - SFB lectures on Amplitudes
DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM:\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n14:30 – 15:00 Kaffeepause\n
 \n15:00 – 15:30 SFB-Vollversammlung\n\n15:30 – 16:30\nProf. Dr. Marcu
s Spradlin (Brown University) \nCluster algebras and scattering amplitudes
\n\n\nScattering amplitudes of planar N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory are
functions with remarkable mathematical properties. The manifold of kinemat
ic data for an n-particle scattering process is an example of a type of sp
ace known as a cluster Poisson variety\, and it has been discovered that t
here is a deep connection between amplitudes and the associated Gr(4\,n) G
rassmannian cluster algebra. I will review various aspects of this connect
ion and show how exploiting these mathematical properties can greatly aid
the computation of previously unknown amplitudes.\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n16:30
 – 17:00 Kaffeepause\n\n17:00 – 18:00\nDr. Congkao Wen (Universita di R
oma ) \nConstraining effective actions via scattering amplitudes\n\nI will
discuss how the consistent conditions arising from scattering amplitudes
can be utilized for constraining low-energy effective actions. In particul
ar in this talk I will focus on the effective action of N=4 super Yang-Mil
ls theory in the Coulomb branch. The constraints from supersymmetry as wel
l as (broken) conformal symmetry allow us to obtain new non-renormalizatio
n theorems. I will also discuss scale invariance v.s. conformal symmetry i
 n this context.
