Title: Tidal Effects in Neutron Stars of Higher Curvature Gravity
Abstract: We calculate the leading-order correction to the electric Love number of a neutron star from higher curvature gravity. To that end we use the first-order correction to general relativity, known as quadratic gravity, and calculate theleading-order correction to the Newtonian field equation, which we find to be at second post-Newtonian order. For our calculations, we use a non-rotating spherically symmetric neutron star with a polytropic equation of state. We develop a perturbative framework to calculate corrections to tidal parameters around the Newtonian limit. We use this framework to make an order of magnitude estimation of the contribution of quadratic gravity to the electric Love number for a specific set of neutron star parameters.
