Title: Universal tails in gravitational waveforms
Abstract: I will describe a novel resummation of the universal tails in gravitational waveforms using the scattering of gravitational waves by black holes and the renormalization group. Key to this result is a new relation between the scattering phase shift and anomalous dimension of multipole moments in worldline EFT, which is the first example of a “boundary-to-bound” map for non-local-in-time effects. Our work unlocks the door to a full framework for predicting the signals from bound binary inspiralling systems using scattering amplitudes.
