Title: The IKKT matrix model as a possible basis for 3+1-dimensional (quantum) gravity & cosmology

Abstract: the IKKT matrix model was introduced as a constructive definition of (some corner of) IIB string theory. It also provides a mechanism for 3+1-dimensional gravity on suitable space-time branes,  without compactification of target space. The Einstein-Hilbert action is obtained as  a quantum effect, which is expected to dominate in an intermediate regime. Some aspects of this emergent gravity theory are discussed, including modified Einstein equations. At very long distances, the bare Yang-Mills-type action is dominant, leading to significant deviations from GR at cosmic scales.
