SUMMARY:QFT-Colloquium: Chia-Hsien Shen\, (Uppsala U and Taiwan U) -
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Chia-Hsien Shen\, Uppsala University and National Taiw
an University\n\nTitle: Positivity in EFT Renormalization: from Quantum Pa
rticles to Classical Black Holes\n\nAbstract: Renormalization group (RG) e
volution is a fundamental feature of quantum field theory\, playing a pivo
tal role in both its formal structures and phenomenological applications i
n particle physics and beyond. While the framework for calculating RG flow
s is well established\, unexpected patterns continue to emerge. In this ta
lk\, I will leverage fundamental principles—unitarity and analyticity—
to constrain the direction of RG evolution in effective field theory that
shares a similar spirit as the a-theorem in conformal field theory. This r
esult can be understood as an infrared avatar of positivity bound. For phe
nomenological applications\, I will discuss examples in chiral perturbatio
n theory and the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. I will also discus
s a similar behavior in the renormalization of the dynamical tidal Love nu
mbers of Schwarzschild black holes. This talk is based on 2505.02910 and w
 ork in progress.
