The dilaton is the Goldstone boson of spontaneously broken scale invariance. Soft limits of goldstone bosons are generically interesting, and I’ll show in this blackboard talk quite generally and in examples what it looks like for the dilaton. The examples include a scalar toy model, N=4 on its Coulomb branch and string theory. Questions and directions abound.
