The calculation of scattering amplitudes in various theories has been benefiting substantially from finding an appropriate language for the problem and exploiting the corresponding algebraic structures. I will discuss the underlying motivation and provide two particularly successful examples. I will end the talk with a list of directions to be pursued in the future and comment on the application to phenomenologically interesting theories.
